Minister Hoffmeister-Kraut opens Baden-Württemberg House at Expo Dubai

Hoffmeister-Kraut: “The Expo project is an outstanding opportunity and a milestone for our federal state's global presence. We will show the world how innovative, diverse and attractive Baden-Württemberg is.“

Two days after the opening of the world’s fair in Dubai, Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, has traveled to Dubai where she officially opened the Baden-Württemberg House at Expo today (October 3).

“Being the only region among more than 190 nations at Expo is an outstanding opportunity and a milestone for our federal state's global presence. We have seized this unique chance for our innovative image and our international reputation as a hub for business and science," said the Minister.

“The manifold program of the coming months, with participants from all over the world, offers a great opportunity for Baden-Württemberg and its companies to network internationally. These networks are enormously important, especially for our export-oriented economy. But the region's cultural scene and tourism will also benefit from the project. I am very happy that Expo is has finally opened its doors. With our impressive pavilion, we will show visitors from all over the world how innovative, diverse and attractive Baden-Württemberg is,” said Hoffmeister-Kraut.

Among the guests of the ceremony, to which the State University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart provided musical accompaniment, were the German Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Peter Fischer, and high-ranking guests of Expo 2020 Dubai.

During her two-day trip to Expo, the Minister also visited the German Pavilion and met with company representatives. Another highlight was her participation in an aerospace forum followed by a tour of the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, which was jointly organized by Baden-Württemberg International and Forum Aerospace Baden-Wuerttemberg. Furthermore, Minister Hoffmeister-Kraut will receive Mariam Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment in the United Arab Emirates, and Dr. Gerd Müller, the German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, at the Baden-Württemberg House.

Broad support from Baden-Württemberg’s companies
Over 30 sponsoring partners and more than 120 content partners from science, business, education, culture and politics are supporting the pavilion. For them, Expo represents an important platform where they can present themselves to a global audience – a strategy that is already paying off: A memorandum of understanding was signed today (October 3) between Baden-Württemberg International (BW_i) and Dubai SME, in which both declare their intention to intensify their cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

Interactive exhibition with numerous innovations from the region
The sponsors of the Baden-Württemberg House have also made numerous contributions to the exhibition itself. More than 40 projects and innovations from quantum technology, revolutionary medicine, augmented reality, tomorrow’s living spaces, visionary construction, Beyond Industry 4.0, 3D mobility, climateneutral energy, sustainability and artificial intelligence will be presented at interactive media stations. In addition, visitors can use their smartphones to explore selected exhibits and future topics of the federal state using augmented reality (AR) in the so-called Vision Lab.

Broad cultural program and delicious specialties from Baden-Württemberg
Apart from the interactive exhibition, which can also be “visited” online thanks to a digital twin of the pavilion, the Baden-Württemberg House offers a broad cultural program in which numerous artists from Baden-Württemberg will be involved over the coming months. Among the highlights of the program are juggling, music and dance, but also fashion shows, a children's program and film screenings. In addition, there are regular cooking shows where visitors can see for themselves what Baden-Württemberg's cuisine has to offer. Specialties from the region are also served.
